We are separating grades for this class by 2nd-3rd and 4th-6th. Field trips and some activities will be done together.
United States History – Civil War to the Present
In this course we will cover the major topics of the past 150 years including the Civil War, Gilded Age, World War I, Roaring Twenties, World War II, and the Civil Rights movement. A four week study on American Government will conclude our course. Due to the sensitive nature of many of the topics, special care has been taken to choose age-appropriate material.
The History of the USA books 7-10 will provide the framework for our study, but MANY additional resources will be utilized. These will include additional reading, workbook pages, notebooking, and a variety of hands on activities. All learning styles will be addressed.
Students will be required to purchase Story of the USA workbooks 3 and 4, Amanda Bennett’s American Government Unit Study, and the class history notebook that will be provided by the teacher. All additional resources can be purchased, but the majority should be available at the library.
