Middle School: America’s Providential History & Its Expression in the Arts
My goal is to tell the story of America in a way that makes history “come alive” for your student while developing a passion for God’s Providence in the story of our country and in their own lives. We will learn about the “big ideas” upon which our nation was founded like government by consent, liberty through self-government, and the “radical” idea of Creator-endowed rights. We’ll hear the gripping stories of our founding and development and get to know the fascinating individuals used by God to accomplish His purpose. We’ll also explore the visual and performing arts of the period and take note of how they reflected the prevailing worldview. My hope is that students complete the class with enthusiasm for their own role in history and an understanding of their responsibility to apply truth in a way that impacts the culture. “You are the salt of the earth…You are the light of the world.” Matthew 5:13-14
Students will work through the Latin Road to English Grammar-Volume I. For a detailed course description of Latin I, please refer to the “Table of Contents” available at http://www.thelatinroad.com (can be used as foreign language credit for HS).
